About Paul - "Mr. Self-Care"
It’s really great you stopped by – perfect timing actually! Because it’s never too late to start learning how to take better care of yourself.
By nature, we tend to overdo it, often pushing ourselves harder and further beyond our own limits.
It happens to everyone because life is often "overwhelming".
But the real problem is that no one reminds us to “take care” of ourselves and we simply forget. In fact, taking good care of ourselves is usually something that we leave for last!
Why Mr. Self-Care?
I started Mr. Self-Care because I wanted to deliver a message to anyone and everyone about living stress-free. I wanted to deliver a message filled with inspiration, self-acceptance, and self-love.
But to get there I couldn't preach it from the rooftops. I had to find a way to help people make small, but powerful changes regularly, that will help them take better care of their bodies, their minds, and their spirits.
And then it dawned on me. If I can help people improve their self-care routines in each of these main areas (rest, exercise, diet, attitude, and environment), then I would in fact be able to help people create more self-acceptance and self-love. This in turn would naturally reduce stress
So that is what I set out to do!
Do I Even Know What Self-Care Is?
First, I had to look at my own life and I realized that I wasn't even taking good care of me. You know the feeling - eating too much, sleeping too little, and worrying about money, friends and family far too much.
I started with one goal. I had to create a self-fulfilling routine that would do the following:
So on June 15th, 2016 I started to do a 20 minute sitting meditation. Each day I would go upstairs, prop myself against the wall, set a timer, and sit there and breathe.
Honestly, at first I hated it. I hated sitting there. I hated wasting time, and I hated doing something that clearly was not going to help.
This hatred was clearly evident, because each day I waited to the absolute last minute of the night before doing it. I kept bargaining with myself, just 20 more minutes and then I will go up and do it.
But alas, 20 days later the hatred faded. It wasn't any easier, but I was no longer mad because I was doing it.
In One Week Things Would Really Change
So I was doing good. I hadn't missed a day, and I was learning what self-care really meant.
One week later I signed up for the "Inner Engineering Course - by ISHA". It would take place on an ashram in Tennessee. For 3 days I would learn how to do simple yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises to replace my existing routine.
Wow, all I can say is this 40 minute daily practice changed my life.
I started it on August 18th, 2016. So far it has kept me limber, focused, and more relaxed than I have ever been before.
I have not missed a single day - nor do I plan to
Now that I had my 40 minute daily yoga/meditation routine in place, it was time to work on my body. Age is not something we can stop, but we can control how we age.
So I started on diet, fasting, drinking a half gallon of fresh water with cayenne, eating fresh raw vegan foods, and growing my own sprouts.
Then I began daily exercise by walking/biking and throwing the weights around 5 days a week.
This was followed by proper rest. I bought expensive sheets for the bed, moved to an unused room upstairs because it was quieter, and started paying attention to going to sleep earlier.
Next, I started on my environment by cleaning up my house and removing or repairing things as need which included a new hot water heater, and encapsulating the crawl space under my house to remove any mold transfer which in turn created cleaner indoor air cleaner.
Now I am working on my new attitude by journaling, daily affirmations, and new goals.
My goal is to help you make self-care #1
So you can see, I what I share is what I live, and I will share what I learn to make your journey easier and more fun!
When you take care of yourself, when you are well rested and well fed then you are happier. When you are happier you are more inclined to help another person. The more you take care of yourself the more you have to offer to others.
